, Juan Martin del Potro took down Roger Federer by 7-5 3-6 7-6 6-4 in 2 hours and 52 minutes, reaching his first Grand Slam semi-final since Wimbledon 2013. This was their 22nd meeting and only the 6th win for the Argentine, who hasn't beat Roger since Basel 2013.

Roger has won 5 out of the previous 6 Grand Slam meetings but it wasn't to be for him this time around, missing some crucial balls in the closing stages of the first and third sets for his first Grand Slam defeat this season.

This means that we missed Federer vs Nadal encounter at the US Open by just 1 match for the 6th time, just like in 2008, 2009

, 2010, 2011, and 2013. In addition, Swiss star was 34-1 in the evening matches at the US Open prior to this one, losing only to Tomas Berdych in 2012, at the quarter-final stage

, just like now.

Del Potro, ranked 28th, will now face world number 1 Rafael Nadal in the semi, trying to reach his first Grand Slam final in 8 years! Roger didn't return well and he failed to put Juan Martin's backhand to a bigger pressure, constantly hitting to the Argentine's forehand, which could never give him the advantage.

, he missed some very easy shots, especially at the net, and a great chance to move 2 sets to 1 in front, wasting 4 set points in the 3rd set tie break. Swiss fired 17 aces and his second serve worked better than the Argentine's but he faced 6 break points, dropping serve 3 times.

On the other hand, del Potro did a lot of damage with his first serve and he had to play against just 3 break points

, getting broken only twice (Thiem broke him 4 times in the opening two sets in the previous round). Roger had 60 winners and 41 unforced errors, which was better than 48-32 that Delpo had but the 24th seed won 6 points more in total, enough to log a win in 4 sets.

Both players kicked off the match in strong fashion, finding the right rhythm for 10 easy holds with just 1 deuce. That all changed in game 11 when Juan Martin hit 2 forehand winners (Roger gave him a break point with a double fault) to move 6-5 in front and he closed the set with a service winner a few minutes later to grab the opener by 7-5.

Federer raised his game in the second set, breaking del Potro at love in game 4 with a forehand winner, and that was all he needed to bring the set home

, losing just 4 points on serve in the last 3 games for a 6-3. The Argentine regained his composure at the start of the third set, breaking in game 2 (Roger hit a double fault) to open up a 3-0 lead.

A volley winner saved Federer from trailing 4-0, and he pulled the break back in game 7 when Juan Martin double faulted on a break point. The tie break was a wild one and the Argentine eventually got it by 10-8, but only after saving 4 set points! Roger was 4-2 in front and he had those set points at 6-4, 6-5, 7-6 and 8-7

, but he couldn't convert any of them, to be severely punished.

Swiss missed the opening 3 set points with forced errors and Delpo saved the 4th one with a forehand winner, stealing the set when Federer failed to control a volley at the net in the 18th point. The 4th set started with 4 commanding holds but the crucial moment occurred in game 5 when Roger hit some routine shots wide to face 3 break points, and he got broken when Juan Martin landed a backhand winner for a 3-2 lead.

The Argentine only had to serve well and the place in the semis would be his, and that's exactly what he did in the remaining 3 service games. He went 5-3 in front with a hold at love and he wrapped up a great victory with a forehand down the line winner in the 10th game.

KAMPALA, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Uganda will enter the football pitch on Tuesday with a prayer to beat hosts Egypt in their own back yard in the 2018 World Cup qualifier.

While some analysts say this would be an uphill task when the two teams clash in Alexandria

, there are possibilities that Uganda may win.

The east African country last Thursday defeated Egypt 1-0 when they met in Kampala for the first leg of the World Cup qualifier.

"We have reached a level where we can take on any team in the world. This is the best chance for us to be at the World Cup. We are going to win away to Egypt on Tuesday," Moses Basena, Uganda's national coach told Xinhua.

Basena said facing a good team like Egypt is always tough, but added that his players are very motivated to get a result away from home.

"Winning away means a lot for us in this campaign and we must handle the match with a lot of caution," he added.

It would be a big boost for the Uganda Cranes to go four points clear in Group E if they win the game before they host the Black Stars of Ghana in October and travel to face Congo Brazzaville in November.

"We are not going to take the peddle off because we need to get a good result in Egypt. It would be good to go four points clear in the group," said the goalkeeper's coach Fred Kajoba.

Uganda have never come this close in a World Cup qualifying campaign.

Last Thursday Emmanuel Arnold Okwi netted the lone goal against Egypt in Kampala to ensure Uganda took lead of Group E with seven points

, while Egypt are second on six points.

Some analysts think it will be a tight hurdle to jump in Egypt for Uganda Cranes.

"Playing North African teams in their backyard is not aways easy and I think because of the better technical approach and good playing surface together with the home support, Egypt will get the win," said Fred Musisi.

After qualification for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations after 39 years of waiting, the Ugandan Cranes are optimistic this is another opportunity for them to break the jinx and make it to the world top stage.

While failure to qualify for the World Cup will not bring financial benefit to the team, it will
